Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers regarding ATL active status, penalties, and tax returns in Pakistan.

Non-filers pay double and triple withholding taxes across all financial sectors:
• Property: Up to 10.5% on purchases and 6% on sales.
• Banking: 0.8% tax on cash withdrawals and 30% tax on saving profits (vs 15% for filers).
• Vehicles: Significantly higher motor vehicle registration and annual token fees.
• Legal Action: Risk of bank account freezes, SIM blocking, and statutory FBR audit penalties.

NTN (National Tax Number) is merely your tax registration number in FBR's database. Having an NTN alone does not make you an Active Filer.

To become an Active Filer, you must submit your annual Income Tax Return along with your Wealth Statement on FBR's IRIS portal. Only then does your status appear as Active on the Active Taxpayers List (ATL).

Never ignore an FBR Notice! Failure to respond within statutory deadlines can lead to ex-parte best judgement assessments and heavy penalties under Section 122/111.

Contact Adv. Faizan Ali Memon immediately. We will review the notice, prepare a lawful reply with documented reconciliation, and represent your case before the tax commissioner or appellate tribunal.
